Sejarah Ganesha Pecinta Alam Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Ponorogo

Cikal bakal organisasi PALA (Pecinta Alam) Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Ponorogo dimulai dari pemikiran untuk membentuk suatu organisasi PALA (Pecinta Alam) sebagai orang independen. Membuat Ahmad Mutaqin, Edy Purnomo (Ketua Pramuka), dan Supriadi (Ketua PMR) yang pada saat itu aktif dalam kegiatan Pramuka, menyetuskan ide bersama untuk mendirikan organisasi PALA (Pecinta Alam). Dasar pemikiran ketiga adalah karena saat itu dinilai hanya ada tiga ekstrakulikuler di Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Ponorogo, yaitu Pramuka, Palang Merah Remaja (PMR), dan Kelompok Karya Ilmiah Remaja (KIR). Dari keadaan itu menjadi bassed of main atau dasar pemikiran untuk mendirikan organisasi yang benar-benar baru kemudian ditambah dengan dukungan dari beberapa rekan antara lain, Gigih (Ketua OSIS saat itu), IjukSugiarto (Ketua KIR), Aji(Ketua Bulutangkis), dan Winarto (Ketua Ganesha Pecinta Alam kedua).
Pada awalnya pergerakan, organisasi PALA (Pecinta Alam) Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Ponorogo mengalami banyak hambatan, mulai dari belum disetujuinya pembentukan organisasi ini oleh pihak sekolah, kemudian masalah dana dan fasilitas yang sangat terbatas. Dengan melakukan lobi hingga beberapa kali kepada pihak sekolah, akhirnya organisasi PALA (Pecinta Alam) disetujui keberadaan, tapi pihak sekolah belum memberikan dana di tahun pertamanya.
Tepat tanggal 24 Oktober 1987, Organisasi PALA (Pecinta Alam) Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Ponorogo berdiri secara resmi di Gunung Kayangan, Kecamatan Pudak, Ponorogo, dengan menyandung predikat sebagai OPA tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas- sederajat pertama seluruh bekas Karesidenan Madiun (perlu diketahui Gunung Kayangan saat itu masih berupa hutan belantara). Ketua umum Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) yang pertama adalah AhmadMutaqin.
Nama Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) disematkan pada Organisasi Pecinta Alam setelah melalui berbagai pemikiran dan usulan dari pihak terkait yang sebelumnya muncul nama seperti: Kompas, Patrinda, dan lain-lain. Namun pada akhirnya, nama “GANESHA” di awal nama organisasi telah diaplikasi oleh Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) sebelum ekstrakulikuler lain di Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Ponorogo.
Pada tahun pertama, Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) melantik 23 orang siswa sebagai anggota, yaitu 18 anggota laki-laki dan 5 anggota perempuan. Menyusul generasi berikutnya, terdaftar 60 siswa yang sangat berminat mengikuti ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam). Tapi, setelah melewati berbagai seleksi, hanya 30 siswa yang diterima sebagai calon anggota muda PALA (Pecinta Alam). Dan perlu diketahui, tanpa membutuhkan waktu yang lama, ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) berkembang pesat di Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Ponorogo karena peminat yang tinggi dan kualitasnya yang tak kalah dengan ekstrakuler yang lain.
Namun pada saat itu, banyak fasilitas yang belum terpenuhi di Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) termasuk sebuah secretariat khusus. Oleh karena itu, Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) menggunakan sebuah rumah di Jalan Siberut (rumah Mas Aji) sebagai secretariat sementara. Tapi, para anggota ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) ini tidak mau berhenti di situ saja. Mereka berusaha PALA (Pecinta Alam) ini tidak mau berhenti di situ saja. Pada tahun awal pendirian, pihak sekolah tidak memberikan dana untuk penyediaan fasilitas organisasi. Sehingga anggota Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) hanya menggunakan peralatan seadanya untuk mengadakan latihan bersama. Mereka menggunakan bekas tromol sepeda dan tali tambang untuk latihan. Namun, karena alat tersebut sangat kurang memadai, akhirnya mereka sepakat untuk mengumpulkan dana pengadaan fasiltas. Setelah dana terkumpul, anggota Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) membeli beberapa perlengkapan Pecinta Alam di Bandung. Antara lain, carabiner 12 buah, webbing 24 buah, dan tali karnmentel 1 roll. Hal ini karena belum ada tempat yang menjual peralatan Pecinta Alam atau adventure shop di Ponorogo.
Kegiatan-kegiatan:
Banyak sekali kegiatan yang dimasukkan sebagai program kerja Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam). Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) adalah salah satu organisasi yang memiliki kegiatan padat pada program kerja tahunan. Kegiatan tersebut ialah: Diklatsar, Pelantikan 1, XPDC 1, Pelantikan 2, XPDC 2, dan Latihan dasar kepemimpinan. Event public yang diprakarsai oleh Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) adalah LLWF (Lomba Lintas Wisata dan Fotografi) 1 Seluruh Jawa dan Bali yang diikuti oleh berbagai kalangan, terutama Mapala dari berbagai kota. Tidak tanggung-tanggung jumlah pesertanya meluap hingga 1500 orang. Kegiatan ini berlanjut hingga beberapa kali. LLWF sangat diminati oleh banyak kalangan, sebab event seperti ini tergolong jarang diselenggarakan pada saat itu sehingga antusiasme masyarakat sangat tinggi. Ini membuktikan bahwa Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) tidak hanya menjadi trend center di lingkungan sekolah, tapi juga di Kabupaten Ponorogo, kita tercinta ini. Kegiatan selanjutnya yang tidak kalah menarik adalah penghijauan di Wates, Kecamatan Slahung. Yaitu penanaman 15.000 bibit pohon yang terselenggara berkat dukungan Perhutani.
Pda tahun 2004-2005, angakatan Ganesha PALA (Pecinta Alam) ke XVI berhasil menggelar sebuah event panjat tebing GWCCS (Ganesha Wall Climbing Competition Series) tingakt Jawa Timur hingga dua periode. Event ini juga tergolong sukses.
