Definition of Phrase, kinds of Phrase and example of Phrase

PHRASE

In every act of writing, we can not be separated from the use of a group of words arranged in such a manner in accordance with the rules of grammar, called the sentence. A Phrase is a group of related words That does not include a subject and verb. Phrase is a series of words that already contains a definition or a unity of meaning, but do not have a subject and predicate and is part of a sentence. If the words in the phrase we are separated, then it has a different meaning when the words are put together.

There are nine generally accepted classifications for phrases. These classifications are generally based on the headword or construction of the phrase. The headword can usually stand alone as a one-word phrase. It is the only part that cannot be omitted from the phrase.

A.      NOUN PHRASE
Noun phrase has a high frequency in English text. Noun phrase or noun group is defined as a noun is modified or described, explained, described and limited by the words that are in front or behind the noun. Noun phrase (NP) has the phrase five elements namely, head, complement, attribute, adjunct, specifier) or just a head.
a.  Head   : Inti dari suatu kalimat atau subject
             Example:
                Boy
                Girl
                             Student
                Teacher

b. Complement : untuk melengkapi head (subject) agar menjadi kalimat yang jelas.
            Example:
            The news on the gulf war
            Angry with his sister
            Read the text

c. Attribut   : untuk menunjukkan characteristics of a head and diletakkan
                    before the head.
        Example:
·      All cleaver students of my class understand  the new theories in the book.

d. Adjunct : untuk menunjukkan characteristics of a head and diletakkan
                  after the head.
        Example:
·      Marry will definitelly finish the work carefully.

e. Specifier  : can be an article or genitive pronoun (a, an, the, my, etc)
        Example:
·      John bought physics book (ungrammatical)
o  John bought a physics book
·       He lost his dictionary
o  He lost dictionary

   For example
     Children ( head only)
   The girl ( specifier and head)
     The naughty boy ( specifier, attribute and head)
   The news on the death of the famous artist (specifier, and head)
    The tall man with thick glasses (specifier, attribute, head and adjunct)
  The handsome English teacher with mustache
  (specifier, attribute, complement, head and adjunct)


B.       VERB PHRASE
Verb phrase is a group of words consisting of two words or more and have a verb. as the core words said here can be a V-1, V-ing, as well as V-3.
Example:
        We will be seeing them again in the next occasion.
          He like going to market
               They are always go to the market
               Iam studying English everyday
               Fira is my daughter, she like draw animal and sing.

C.      ADJECTIVE PHRASE
Adjective phrase or an adjective, a word that serves to explain, explain, describe the act. Additionally adjective phrase is a group of words that have two or more words and has a core adjective as a word. The types of adjective can be classified into two namely:
1.        Root form    : merupakan kata sifat bentuk asli
·                     Expensive
·                     Happy
·                     Tall
·                     Short
·                     Kind

2.        Formatted form : merupakan kata sifat pembentukan dari kata lain. 
·                   A clever woman
·                   I am nervous
·                   I try to keep happy.
·                   I want to be more dilligent and more discipline.


D. ADVERB PHRASE
Adverb or adverb has mean to explain the "verb", "adjective", and "the whole sentence" (the word as a whole). Verb phrase or adverbial phrase is a group of words consisting of two or more words. In use in the phrase, adverb phrase frequently encountered in the form of preposition phrases to describe its function.
1.        He ran fast menerangkan verb
2.        He is very busy menerangkan adjective
3.        He ran very fast menerangkan adverb
4.        Unfurtnately,he fall down menerangkan the whole sentence

Macam-macam bentuk  phrase:
1. Adverb of time keterangan waktu, ex: at, on, in, before, after, for, act.
   Example:
             At 6.00 this morning
            On Sunday
                 In june,1999

2. Adverb of place menunjukkan keterangan tempat,ex: at, in, on, into, act.
    Exaample:
                  In the clasroom
              Into the room
              At the beach

3.  Adverb of manner menerangkan tentang bagaimana suatu aktivitas dilakukan, 
    Example:
                    By their car
              On foot
              Very quickly
