BAB II
DISSCUSION
2.1 Definition
A habit is something we used to do, what habits can be sensed, such as going to certain places, eating certain food. But it also can attitude or feelings for example, respect for other, honor guests, give a smile, honest, not gossiping, etc.
The psychologist explained that the habit consists of 3 closely interrelated elements:
· Know ledges, the theoretical nature of something you want done
· The desire, that is the motivation or inclination to do something
· Expertise, means the ability to do so
If the three elements were met in the act, the act can be categorized as a habit. But if not one of them, then act can not be categorized as a habit. Example of read (can read, know the importance of reading and no motivation or desire to read).
2.2 Implementation
§ Study this example situation
Beni is a bus driver. But now he is sleep in bed. So:
He is not driving a bus (he is asleep).
But: He drives a bus.
This is the present simple tense:
I/we/you/they: drive
He/she/it: drives
We use the present simple to talk about things in general. We are not thinking only about the present. We use it to say that something happens. All time or reputedly, or that something is true in general. It is not important whether the action is happening at the time of speaking:
Ø The earth goes round the sun
Ø Nurses look after patients in hospitals
Ø In Britain most of the shops close at 5.30 p.m
Remember that say he/she/it – s. doesn’t forget the s:
Ø I work in a bank. Barry works in a shop.
§ We use do/does to make question and negative sentences:
Do I/we/you/they
Work?
Does he/she/it
I/we/you/they don’t
Work
He/she/it doesn’t
Ø Gina doesn’t grow in Britain
Ø What does this world mean? (Not’ what means this word?’)
Ø Excuse me, do you speak English
Ø Would you like a cigarette? ‘No thanks. I don’t smoke.’
§ We use the present simple when we say how often we do things:
Ø How often do you go to dentist?
Ø Ann doesn’t often drink milk
Ø In summer Mike usually plays tennis twice a week
Ø I get up at 8 o’clock every morning. ( not ‘am getting’)
§ Note that we say ‘Where do you come from?’ ( Where are you from):
Ø Where do you come from? (Not’ where are you coming from?
Ø He comes from Japan. (Not’ He is coming from Japan.’)
§ When you make a suggestion, you can say why don’t you……?
Ø I’m tired. Why don’t you go to bed carly
2.3 Example
Ø Example 1
DELLA’S DAILY LIFE
Della usually gets up at five in the morning. After taking shower, she take spraying. Della always helps his mother every morning. Her mother preparesbreakfast for the family. Della makes her bed, and she wakes her brother up. She cleans the house and her brother feeds the chicken and then he takes a bath. At 6.15 they have breakfast, and at 6.30 Della goes to school with her mom by motorcycle. Her brother goes to school by bicycle. Her father goes to the office by car.
Ø Example 2
THE STOLEN TRUCK
A truck drives into a petrol station. The driver gets out and speaks to the attendant.
The driver walks across to the coffee shop. A man walks into the petrol station. He looks at the truck.
The man walks over to the coffee shop. He sits down at the driver’s table. He buys him a drink.
The driver gives the man a ride in his truck. They are soon in the country and they see a farmer. Later the man takes out a gun.
The driver gets out and the man drives the truck away. The driver takes out his knife and throws it at the petrol pipe. The truck has stopped. The thief cannot make it go again. The police arrive.
