·         HISTORY
Ginger is thought to have originated from India. But there is also trust the ginger comes from South China. Of India, ginger is taken as the spice trade to Southeast Asia, China, Japan, to the Middle East. Then in the days of colonialism, ginger can provide a warm and spicy flavor to the food soon became a popular commodity in Europe. Because ginger can only survive in the tropics, planting can be done only in the equatorial regions are like Southeast Asia, Brazil, and Africa. Currently Equador and Brazil became the world's largest supplier of ginger.
·         MORPHOLOGICAL FEATURES
Ginger is the pseudo-stem trunks to a height of 30 to 100 cm. Shaped root root rhizome with flesh-colored to reddish-yellow with a pungent odor. Pinnate leaves with a length of 15 to 23 mm and a length of 8 to 15 mm. Downy petiole.
Ginger flower grows from the ground with a long oval-shaped 3.5 to 5 cm and a width of 1.5 to 1.75 cm. Scaly peduncle as much as 5 to 7 pieces. Green and yellow flowers. Lip and stigma purple flowers. Pistil stalk number two.
·         Habitat
Ginger thrives at an altitude of 0 to 1500 meters above sea level, except for the type of ginger elephant in height from 500 to 950 meters.

·         Varieties
There are three types of ginger are popular on the market, namely:
A. Ginger elephant / rhino ginger

2. Yellow ginger
Ginger is widely used as a spice in cooking, mainly for local consumption. Quite a sharp taste and aroma. The size of the rhizome is in yellow.
3. Red ginger
Ginger species has a high content of essential oils and the most pungent flavor, making it suitable for pharmaceutical basic ingredients and herbs. The size of the smallest rhizome in red. With more fiber than regular ginger.


·         benefits of ginger
Bulbs ginger oleoresin containing compounds known as gingerols which are as antioxidant. Properties that make ginger so-called  antiaging useful as bioactive components. Ginger bioactive components may serve to protect the fat / membranes from oxidation, inhibit oxidation of cholesterol, and boost immunity. Various benefits of ginger are traditionally well known is as follows:
Catch a cold
Remedy: Take an old ginger of your thumb, washed and crushed and then boiled in two cups water, add brown sugar to taste. Boil approximately 1/4 hours. Lift and drink warm.
Headache or migraine (migraine)
Remedy: Take the Seibu finger ginger, roasted and crushed. Brewed with a glass of water and give a little palm sugar, drink once. Drink three times a day.
Prevent motion sickness
Remedy: Take the Seibu finger ginger, washed and thinly sliced, then boiled with a glass of water. Warm drink before boarding the vehicle.

·         The content of Ginger
Substance gingerols in ginger also contains analgesic, sedative, antipyretic, and antibacterial.
• The content of analgesics in ginger can be used as a painkiller. Just as paracetamol, analgesics work   directly into the nerve center and relieve pain.
• The content of sedatives. This substance serves as a sedative. Sedative agents work by inducing sedation or reduce feelings of anger by reducing irritability or excessive responses to anger.
• Antipyretics. Substances that are also contained in ginger may reduce fever in the human body. Antipyretic agents are "ordered" or part of the hypothalamus in the brain that contains the core of the brain and various functions to suppress interlukin cause of rise in body temperature.
• Antibacterial. Ginger one is able to inhibit bacterial growth accelerated in the human body.
