SELL YOURSELF
To sell is human. That’s what Dan Pink has to say about sales in today’s world. No matter what you’re doing in your life, you’re selling something.
Dan Pink is a philosopher on the world of work. Even though i am a university student and i am really inspired by him.
People who thrive in business are the ones who naturally market themselves to the right people in the right way.
Self-marketing does not have to be an onerous process if your marketing components are designed based on who you are. Here are some tips to help you make self-promotion natural, whether you're looking for a job or working your way up the corporate ladder.
1. 1. Be A “SuperYou”
Everyone wants to be genuine and be authentic, and a lot of times this is one of the most important parts of selling yourself. Don’t sell yourself well? Think of “you” as a superhero version of yourself. Make a list of your best qualities. Dress the way SuperYou would dress.
When people see the “SuperYou,” they see all the great qualities, but they know there are still negative qualities and faults because we are all human. So why show them the bad qualities when they know it’s inevitable that they’re there? Highlight your positive traits and make the shine like diamonds.
2. 2. Annoy others.
It’s not enough to just be. There’s too much competition. You need to network, communicate, and engage with people as the “you” you want to be, and you will not get there by hiding.
As a student i have many opportunities to follow many events and organizations. I always asked my friends and lecturers if i want to join some events.
I participated in the selection of youth exchanges in April 2013. but in the last selection, I find the data that the youth who will be going overseas for the event aimed to China and Malaysia for some months in this year. Not like last year, that the youth went to Austral and Canada.
But I want to ensure what is the best way for me as my study program is Agribusiness. So, I came to my lecturers and asked them. one of my lecturer is Ms. Rini.
I told her that I took a part in student exchange selection and i was one of the people that will go to the last selection. After we conversed and she gave me suggestion. Finally I chose not to be one of the last finalist. After that meeting, I always call or asked her to make a meeting to help me solve my problem.
I know that sometimes I was annoying her. And I am the only student who do that in my class.
But by doing that she knows my qualification. She gave me many jobs as student and i got much money from that.
The last one is I was promoted by her to represent my university to take a part in ASEAN- India Student Entrepreneurs Exchange 2013. I am so happy because finally I join a student exchange and it will be very useful for me.
Itwas because Ikept bugging her, kept sending her emails, kept reaching out to her --- and, in doing so, selling myself to her — that I was the only person who came to her mind and the only person shesuggested.
3. Don’t be Afraid
Many of us still young. Yes, I know we are young. We are not the oldest that have many experiences. But it doesn’t mean that we must be afraid to face the challenges. We have fire in every heartbeat. Aglow the fire.
Sell yourself by Being A “SuperYou”, Annoy Others or in other word to be Persistent, and Don’t be Afraid.
